Brief Review of Suede's Gig at Playa de Riazor, A Coruña and a bit else/Breve Crítica del concierto de Suede en la playa de Riazor, A Coruña, y algo más Part 1

I never considered myself a Suede fan. However, I remember when their first video came out. I'm an absolute videoclips freak (from the 80's and 90's), and Animal Nitrate, their first single released in Spain, really called my attention. In it, a young Brett Anderson, a skin-and-bone boy with quite a peculiar voice, kind of danced in a leather suit (the jacket a bit too short, showing his belly button), and hit and caressed a pig. I was going to fourteen, and I had a bit of a crush on him at the time. I liked his voice, his weird and androgynous image, and the way he moved. Later came So Young, a very beautiful video which at the time I didn't understand. I think since then, I didn't hear from them until their album Head Music was out, in 1999.

The thing is, I was at a show in 2004 (I had seen Starsailor, Muse, Lou Reed, and my fave band, The Cure), and I can say it was the happiest day of my life, like a dream. This year, when I first heard It starts and ends with You, their new single from their new album after years, I fell in love with it instantly (this usually happens to me, liking a song on the first listening). So, when I got to know that they were coming to Spain, and to a place I could go, I started asking my friends to go with me, and fortunately, one of them was a Suede fan since ever, so she instantly said yes.

Nunca me había considerado una fan de Suede. Sin embargo, me acuerdo de cuando salió su primer vídeo. Soy una freaky de los videclips (de los 80's y 90's) y Animal Nitrate, su primer single en España, me había llamado mucho la atención. En él, un joven Brett Anderson, un delgadísimo chico con una voz cuanto menos peculiar, digamos que bailaba, vestido con un traje de cuero (la chaqueta era corta, hasta el punto de que se le veía el ombligo), aparte de pegar y acariciar a un cerdo. Yo iba a cumplir 14 años, y tenía una especie de fijación con él. Me encantaba su voz, su extraña y andrógina imagen, y la forma en que se movía. Después, vino So Young, un vídeo hermoso cuyo significado en su momento no entendí. Creo que desde entonces no volví a saber de ellos hasta que publicaron Head Music, en 1999.

 El caso es, que había estado en un concierto en 2004 (había visto a Starsailor, Muse, Lou Reed, y a mi banda preferida, The Cure), y puedo decir que fue el día más feliz de mi vida, como un sueño. Este año, cuando escuché por primera vez It starts and ends with You, su nuevo single del nuevo album desde hacía años, me encantó (me suele pasar, que adore una canción desde la primera escucha). Así que cuando me enteré de que iban a venir a España, y aun sitio a dónde podría ir a verlos, empecé a preguntar a mis amigos si podrían venir, y por suerte, una de ellas, que es fan de Suede desde siempre, dijo que sí.
